Collective Redundancy Procedure – Change to Consultation Period
Folllowing previous announcements by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, new legislation came into effect on 6th April 2013 to reduce the minimum consultation period for large-scale redundancies from 90 to 45 days, where there are more than 100 or more redudancies involved. The shorter time period, for 20-100 redundancies, remains at 30 days.
New guidance has consequently been published by the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) in relation to the management of collective redundancy procedures, covering both the legally required areas and best practice issues for employers, to assist employers with large-scale redundancy procedures.
